The Past Presiding Officers of the International Code Council will host the 3rd Annual Ron Burton Golf Outing sponsored by the National Multifamily Housing Council and BOMA International on September 10, 2017, at the Royal American Links, Galena Ohio, during the ICC Annual Conference.
The RBO is an activity to raise funds to support the “Journey to Leadership” Program, which continues to provide guidance and assistance through training materials, and training sessions to inspire code officials to reach new heights in their career development through an understanding of the Code Official’s role in the building safety industry; by identifying the competencies necessary to be an effective leader in the Code industry; via lessons learned from current leaders in the Code industry; and assisting young officials in the mapping of possible next steps for professional development.
The tourney will include a 50/50 drawing*; prizes for the longest drive and closest to the pin; a hole-in-one contest; golf ball launching contest; and gifts for all participants. Transportation, breakfast and lunch will be provided. The Smith Brother’s Hardware building has been a landmark in downtown Columbus since the 1920’s, serving as its namesake company’s warehouse and one of the Midwest’s largest hardware distribution centers. After The Smith Brother’s Hardware Company closed its doors in the 1980’s, the building sat vacant for fifteen years and survived a two alarm fire on its top three floors. In the mid-90’s the building was renovated to accommodate office space in the main warehouse and two banquet venues in the former steel storage buildings on the Eastern side of the site. The keynote speaker for this year’s Members’ Luncheon will be the only two-time winner of the prestigious Heisman Trophy, Archie Griffin. A three-time All-American, he is included in the NCAA’s 100 Most Influential Student-Athletes and is a member of the National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame board of directors. In 2014 Griffin was honored as All-Century Player by the Tournament of Roses Association, in celebration of the 100th anniversary Rose Bowl game. Griffin played in four consecutive Rose Bowl games under legendary coach Woody Hayes. He was also a first-round draft choice of the Cincinnati Bengals, where he served as co-captain and played for seven years.
Archie Griffin is now The Ohio State University’s senior advisor for Advancement after serving for 11 years as the president/chief executive officer of the Alumni Association (OSUAA). During his time as OSUAA president/CEO, Griffin worked to make it possible for all alumni to stay connected to Ohio State and strengthen the status of the university.

The historic Palace Theatre at the base of the LeVeque Tower is currently being restored to its roaring 1920’s grandeur. The 15,000-square-foot auditorium opened in 1926 as a separate real estate parcel from the rest of the 47-story LeVeque, which was completed in 1927 and today both buildings are is undergoing rehabilitation inside and out.
