GCD will showcase two important and timely subjects. In the morning session, “Building and Fire Codes, Fire Protection, and Safety around the World” will feature presenters from the United States and around the globe. The fire safety theme will also intertwine with individual country presentations during the annual Global Panel discussion.
The afternoon session, “Global Economic Trends and Business Practices,” will feature a keynote economic presentation and a panel discussion featuring Building Safety Service Providers from the U.S. and abroad, comparing domestic and international trends in helping governmental jurisdictions to advance the Code Council mission.
Mr. Paul Rivers, Building & Fire Keynote Speaker, will address the topic of “Building and Fire codes, Fire Protection and Safety around the world: Fire regulation solutions for developing countries.” He is a research Senior Fire Protection Specialist at 3M Company. Located in St. Paul, Minnesota, USA, Paul has over 40 years in the fire protection industry, working in fire insurance, fire protection consulting and fire sprinkler contracting for 15 years and has over the past 26 years worked in 3M laboratories in product development with a focus on fire protection solutions for critical assets. Mr. Rivers is President of the Board of Directors for SFPE International.
Mr. Jaime Moncada will address topic of “Fire Safety in Latin America—Challenges and Potential Solutions.”
He is an experienced fire protection engineer whose 30 year-long career has had a special emphasis in projects throughout Latin-America in the oil & gas, industrial, institutional and commercial sectors. He has also worked in projects in North America, Europe and Asia. He is a graduate in fire protection engineering, with a master degree in technology management, both from the University of Maryland.
In the afternoon session, “Global Economic Trends and Business Practices” will highlight a keynote economic presentation by Mr. Dante Amato, Strategic Account Manager at Metrostudy, the leading provider of primary and secondary market information to the housing and residential construction industry. Also, a panel of Building Safety Service Providers from the U.S. and abroad will compare domestic and international trends in helping governmental jurisdictions to advance the Code Council mission of creating safe, sustainable and resilient buildings and communities.
Lori Parris, Deputy Director of the Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs in Washington, DC, will moderate a business panel discussion on the topic of Third Party Providers in the building sector. The panel will be comprised of Building Safety Professionals from varying international and domestic perspectives of the building safety industry and will cover the current and future trends on the built environment.
