“Accreditation: Delivering Confidence in Construction and the Built Environment” is the theme for World Accreditation Day

The International Accreditation Service (IAS) is celebrating June 9 as World Accreditation Day with the accompanying theme -- Accreditation: Delivering Confidence in Construction and the Built Environment. More than 60 countries are participating in the global initiative established by the International Accreditation Forum (IAF) and the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC).  IAS is a recognized accreditation body and a signatory member of both ILAC and IAF, which provide the infrastructure necessary for consumers in many different countries to have confidence in the services of the construction industry.

In recognition of World Accreditation Day, Chuck Ramani, President, of IAS has signed an official proclamation on behalf of the accreditation body. “Accreditation provides objective proof that companies or organizations operate competently and safely, and have demonstrated compliance with the standards,” said Ramani.  "Accreditation helps regulators to manage risk, as they are able to target their inspections more reliably and effectively, while delivering cost savings."

“Accreditation by IAS, and other accreditation bodies recognized by ILAC and IAF, is the preferred and globally accepted method for determining the technical competence, reliability and integrity of testing and calibration laboratories, inspection agencies and product certification bodies,” said Raj Nathan, IAS Senior Vice President. “When IAS accredits an organization, the opportunities are much higher for its reports or certificates to be accepted by regulators worldwide.”

Accreditation is a formal, independent verification that a program, institution or company meets established quality standards and is competent to carry out specific conformity assessment tasks. Accreditation has been used for more than 50 years as the definitive means to evaluate organizations. It is used by all the world’s major economies and many developing economies.

IAS accredits organizations seeking to demonstrate the highest level of competence and service in their respective industries, including testing and calibration laboratories, product certification agencies, personnel certification bodies, management system certification bodies, inspection agencies,  special inspection agencies, inspection programs for metal building manufacturers, metal building assembler inspection programs, fabricator inspection programs, training agencies, curriculum developers, field evaluation bodies, fire prevention and life safety departments, building departments and building department service providers. A recognized accreditation body since 1975, IAS is a nonprofit, public benefit corporation. IAS is one of the leading accreditation bodies in the United States and a signatory to several international mutual recognition arrangements (MRAs).
