Dear Chapter Officers:
We are writing to ask you to help us identify a candidate (or candidates) from your chapter to become an “Energy Code Ambassador” who can assist other code officials in understanding and enforcing the state building energy code in your state, and be an advocate for adoption and enforcement of the most recent energy code in your state.
This program, which is being launched in New York, Kentucky, Illinois, and Idaho as a joint ICC/ Building Codes Assistance Project (BCAP) effort, will provide direct training and certification support to selected participants and will help everyone in the chapter and in the state achieve a higher level of understanding and compliance with the new energy code. As with any voluntary program, the program’s success depends on finding motivated, interested and capable participants who have the ability to devote a part of their time to assisting other code officials in this emerging area of code compliance. In return, ICC and BCAP will provide the selected “Energy Code Ambassadors” with recognition, as well as valuable training and certification benefits, and the opportunity to become leaders in the area of code compliance and enforcement -- poised to become the leading focus of Federal and state interest in building codes over the next 5 years.
We hope you will publicize this opportunity within your chapter, encourage members to express their interest, and then select one or more qualified candidates, and forward their names and a brief resume for each candidate to us, for final selection. Send names and resumes to Dave Karmol, at ECAP@iccsafe.org.
We have a draft set of program guidelines available, click here, and we request that you share the guidelines with prospective nominees, so they understand the program and its benefits, as well as its obligations. All correspondence, including candidate names, contact information and resume, should be sent to ECAP@iccsafe.org.
Thanks for your interest and support. Let us know if you have any questions.
If for some reason the chapter does not want to participate, please let us know so that we can reach out directly to code officials within the chapter area.
Warm Regards,

Dave Karmol,
Vice President for Federal and External Affairs |
