Richland, Washington Becomes First Jurisdiction in the Nation to Adopt IGCC

Congratulations to Richland, Washington, for being the first local government in the United States to adopt the IGCC. In adopting the code as a non-mandatory document for commercial buildings, the city cited the flexibility of the code as a key reason for moving forward. Kevin Rex, city building inspection supervisor, said, "when we learned that it did not have to be a mandatory code adoption, that we could use it as a document to help everyone become familiar with green construction, we decided to adopt it.” Click here to read the joint press release.

IGCC Public Hearings Underway
The Westin O'Hare in Rosemont, Illinois, is the site of the 2010 IGCC Public Comment Hearings taking place now through August 22. The hearings are being webcast.

Nearly 2,500 Organizations and Individuals Commit their Support to IGCC
A synopsis of IGCC Public Version 1.0 is available as a download from the ICC website. The download process includes a specific step to document support for the IGCC. The impressive list of organizations and individuals who support the IGCC has grown tremendously in the days since the launch of Public Version 1.0, with new supporters arriving daily.    

ICC CEO Rick Weiland Testifies Before Department of Energy
In a U.S. Department of Energy public hearing in Washington, D.C., Code Council CEO Rick Weiland made a case for inclusion of the IGCC in the Federal Energy Management Program's proposed rulemaking for Energy Efficient and Sustainable Design Standards for New Federal Buildings. USGBC White Paper: Greening the Codes
The United States Green Building Council (USGBC), an IGCC Coalition partner, recently authored an in-depth white paper on “Greening the Codes.” The document is particularly useful for those who are interested in the topic of how the IGCC will complement LEED to advance safe and sustainable building practices in America.

How to Advocate for the International Green Construction Code
IGCC Coalition partner the American Institute of Architects (AIA) has built and advocacy page on the aia.org website that serves as a resource to architects needing more information on the IGCC and also seeking to take and advocacy role in their communities.

IGCC has been in the news often recently, as word about the impact of the code spreads throughout trade and consumer media.
