Welcome to the International Code Council's 2009 Annual Conference and Code Development Hearings in Baltimore, Maryland! This conference—one of the largest gatherings of code enforcement professionals on an annual basis—highlights the central role you play in creating safe and sustainable communities around the globe.
This year's conference includes the start of another Code Development Cycle for the International Codes. Many of you have already participated in the hearings that began this past week and will continue to do so in the days ahead. We encourage you to share your knowledge and expertise during these proceedings that will lead to increased effectiveness of the codes and enhanced safety of citizens in your communities.
In addition to the code hearings, this year's conference offers numerous activities for attendees:
• More than 20 education sessions to help you develop your code knowledge and earn CEUs and LUs.
• The International Code Council Expo will feature more than 80 exhibitors showcasing the latest building and construction products designed to help you in your building and fire safety profession.
• Voting members will elect officers and members to the 2009-2010 Code Council Board of Directors during the Annual Business Meeting, as well as determine the fate of proposed amendments to the ICC Bylaws.
• And during the Awards Luncheon, the Code Council will recognize and honor you and your colleagues for the services you provide that are vital to ensuring public health and safety.
As usual, there will be many opportunities here in Baltimore, outside of meetings and hearings, for you to catch up with old friends and make new acquaintances. Motorcyclists Visiting Historic Sites on 246-Mile Trek
Participants in the 6th Annual Bob Fowler Motorcycle Ride are visiting several historic sites during today's 246-mile trip. Stops are planned at the Antietam National Battle Field and Harpers Ferry National Historical Park, and in Whites Ferry, Virginia, which is located on the Potomac River. The return trip includes a tour of Washington, D.C.; Arlington National Cemetery; the Lincoln, Jefferson, Roosevelt, Vietnam and World War II Memorials; the White House; U.S. Capitol; and the Smithsonian Institute. |
Education Program Begins Tomorrow
This year's Conference Education Program includes more than 20 sessions to help attendees further their code knowledge and earn continuing education units. Session topics include 2009 I-Code Updates, Building Energy Provisions of the Federal Economic Stimulus Package, An Introduction to ICC 700-2008 National Green Building Standard, Sustainable Construction and the ICC-ES SAVE Program, and IAS Building Department Accreditation Lead Evaluator Training. more>> |
Forum Focusing on NYC Report, Federal Legislation
Tomorrow's Legislative Forum will include a presentation by the New York City Department of Buildings on the final report of the High Risk Construction Oversight Study to analyze high-risk construction operations of concrete, cranes/hoists, and excavation. There will also be a briefing by Code Council Government Relations staff on pending federal legislation, including the Community Building Code Grant Act, and energy related bills. The forum will be held from 1:15-3:15 p.m. in Rooms 324/325 at the Baltimore Convention Center.

Hearings Pick Back Up on Wednesday
After eight days of debate and decision on proposed changes to the International Codes, the Code Development Hearings are taking a three-day break for Annual Conference activities. The hearings pick back up on Wednesday, November 4, with Track 1 featuring IPM/ZC, IEBC and IBC-Fire Safety, and Track 2 featuring IPC/IPSDC. Wednesday's hearings begin at 8 a.m. more>> |
