Industry Advisory Committee Meetings in Washington, D.C.

The Code Council's Industry Advisory Committee convened on March 12 in Washington, D.C. This committee, comprised of representatives of the leading companies involved in the construction industry, meets triennially to discuss a broad range of issues associated with the built environment.

ICC staff briefed member of the Committee on a number of current topics, including the rollout of the International Green Construction Code, the release of the new International Pool and Spa Code, and the Code Development Hearings April 29-May 8 in Dallas. The staff also briefed the IAC on the results of a recent survey which documented the benefits Committee members place on being part of the ICC code development process, as well as some opportunities for collaboration and coordination between the ICC and the industry. Representatives of the ICC Foundation were on hand to provide information about Building Safety Month in May and to personally thank the many members of the Committee who have already pledged their support to this effort to raise awareness about the importance of safe and sustainable structures.

The IAC took several actions at this meeting – including discussing the challenges associated with the online delivery of training courses and agreeing to pursue potential solutions such as greater collaboration across the industry on curriculum development. The IAS also decided to organize formal panel discussions on specific topics with Members from state and local jurisdictions and public interest organizations.
