IECC news for ICC Members to share with media, home builders. The Code Council has released information to support ICC Members in attaining compliance with the International Energy Conservation Code in their jurisdictions and to advise local homebuilders about available tax credits for building energy efficient homes.

Code Council Board approves deletion of IBC Chapter 34 in favor of reference to the IEBC.
The ICC Board of Directors supported the Membership’s recommendation and upheld action taken at the 2012 Public Comment Hearing in Portland on Code Change G201-12 that proposed the deletion of Chapter 34 of the International Building Code in favor of a reference to the International Existing Building Code. The IEBC, in Chapters 4 (Prescriptive Compliance Method) and 14 (Performance Compliance Methods), includes the same provisions that are in Chapter 34 of the IBC. Click here to read more.

Ad Hoc Committee on Healthcare meets March 21-22 in Chicago. The ICC Board approved the creation of the ad hoc committee to comprehensively review and update the provisions in the International Codes relative to both new and existing hospitals and ambulatory care facilities. Read the meeting notice.

CAC joint meeting March 26-27 in Schiller Park, Illinois. ICC's Building, Fire and Sustainability, Energy and High Performance Code Action Committees will hold a joint meeting to review the proposed changes to the Group B Codes and to prepare for the Committee Action Hearings in Dallas. ICC's Plumbing, Mechanical and Fuel Gas CAC will continue to meet by teleconference.

Industry Advisory Committee meets March 28 in Washington, D.C. The Code Council's longest standing committee will meet at the National Association of Home Builders office from Noon-4 p.m. Eastern. Meetings are open to the public. If you plan to attend and/or submit an item for the agenda, please contact Lauren Crane.


Code Technology Committee meets April 8-9. CTC members will meet in Schiller Park, Illinois, to review proposed changes to the Group B Codes and to prepare for the Committee Action Hearings in Dallas. Read the meeting notice.

 
2013 GROUP B COMMITTEE ACTION HEARINGS
 

Registration Open for Group B Hearings in Dallas
Registration is open for the Code Council's 2013 Group B Committee Action Hearings April 21-30 in Dallas, Texas. Hearing participants will consider proposed changes to the International Residential Code for One- and Two-Family Dwellings, International Fire Code, International Energy Conservation Code, International Existing Building Code, International Swimming Pool and Spa Code, International Property Maintenance Code, International Code Council Performance Code for Buildings and Facilities, International Wildland-Urban Interface Code and the International Zoning Code. Action also will be taken on Chapter 1 of all the I-Codes, except the International Green Construction Code, and the administrative update of referenced standards in the 2012 I-Codes.

Schedule Posted No Later than February 22; Proposed Changes Available March 11
The schedule for the 2013 Group B Committee Action Hearings in Dallas will be posted on the Code Council website no later than February 22.

Web postings
of the proposed changes to the Group B International Codes will be available on March 11. CD copies of the proposed changes will be available on April 1.

CODE DEVELOPMENT NEWS

cdp ACCESS Testing Begins in Atlantic City
The Atlantic City Convention Center is open for business and ready to host the Code Council's 2013 Annual Conference and Group B Public Comment Hearings where testing of the online Governmental Consensus Vote will occur as part of the implementation of the cdp ACCESS initiative. After system and process adjustments the 2014 Group C Code Development Cycle will be a binding Beta test for the International Green Construction Code. Click to continue.


New Terminology Used for Code Activities
While introducing the cdp ACCESS initiative the Code Council also has changed its terminology concerning reports, agendas and hearings. Beginning with the 2013 Group B Code Development Cycle, the following terms are in use:

Code Development Hearings are now Committee Action Hearings.
Reports of the Public Hearings are now Reports of the Committee Action Hearings.
Final Action Agendas are now Public Comment Agendas.
Final Action Hearings are now Public Comment Hearings.

STANDARDS UPDATE

Submit Public Comments on First Draft of Irrigation Sprinkler and Emitter Standard
Last year, the Code Council and the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE) announced their intention to jointly develop the ASABE/ICC Landscape Irrigation Sprinkler and Emitter Standard. The ICC Consensus Committee on Landscape Irrigation Emission Devices has held five meetings to develop the first draft of ASABE/ICC 802-201. Public comments are due February 18.

ANSI Approves Next Generation
of National Green Building Standard

ICC 700 is the first and only residential green building rating system to receive approval from the American National Standards Institute. This is the first update of the Standard since 2009. View the notable changes that impact energy requirement and scoring of remodeling projects.
