During the March 21 International Code Council Board of Directors meeting, President Adolf Zubia asked the Board to participate in a volunteer challenge to help the ICC Foundation reach its goal of generating 250,000 hours of volunteer service. The Code Council Board of Directors accepted the challenge, vowing to take the message back to their states and chapters.

They cross-challenged the Code Council subsidiary boards and partners to participate and help all Code Council partners meet the challenge. The winner of the “Board Challenge” will be announced at the Foundation luncheon during the Code Council Annual Conference in Baltimore.

The ICC Foundation is calling on partners and Code Council members to act now and document their volunteer hours. Research has shown that Council members routinely give generously of their personal time by volunteering in their communities. Help the Foundation catalogue these hours by logging your hours, uploading your project descriptions and sharing your digital pictures through the COVC database.

The goal of the volunteer challenge is to reach 250,000 hours before the International Code Council Annual Conference. Participate and receive a variety of gifts ranging from t-shirts and hats to clipboards and pens.

Code of Honor Scholarship Program LogoThe American Institute of Architects (AIA) generously donated the first contribution to the ICC Foundation's Code of Honor Scholarship Program. “This donation demonstrates AIA’s commitment to the code development process and further strengthens the relationship between AIA and the ICC Foundation,” stated John Loyer, American Institute of Architects Director, State Relations.

The Code of Honor program is designed to foster widespread, diverse and balanced participation in the code development process by helping to underwrite costs for Code Council governmental members voting representatives to participate in Final Action hearings. One hundred percent of donations will be used for the scholarships.
