Step Forward with Congress and Act Now
Better building through better code enforcement is in the best interests of our country and every community in it. With that in mind‚ the International Code Council has been working to bring attention to the Community Building Code Administration Grant (CBCAG) Act legislation aimed at providing federal grants to building departments to enhance public safety. Learn how you can make a difference. Support the legislation.

New Certifications for Fire Technicians
The Code Council and the National Association of Fire Equipment Distributors (NAFED) joined forces to develop the new Code Council/NAFED Technician Certification Program for fire equipment technicians. When complete‚ the groups will offer Fire Extinguisher Technician certification and Pre-Engineered Fire Extinguishing Systems Technician certification.

Jersey County Adopts International Codes
 
Effective May 8‚ Jersey County‚ Illinois‚ adopted the 2006 International Building, Residential‚ Mechanical‚ Property Maintenance‚ Existing Building‚ Fuel Gas and Energy Conservation Codes‚ and repealed all codes conflicting with the International Codes. Around the country‚ more than 21‚000 jurisdictions enforce the International Codes to protect people and property in their communities. View adoptions by jurisdiction.

Code Question: Opinions by Expert Staff
Q: A storage building of combustible materials (Group S-1) has an area of 150‚000 sq. ft. Exception 2 for Section 910.1 of the 2006 International Building Code allows for the elimination of automatic smoke and heat vents if the areas in question are equipped with early-suppression fast-response (ESFR) sprinklers. As such‚ can the maximum travel distance allowance in this facility‚ as permitted by Section 1016.2‚ still be maintained?
