Weber Receives Fowler Award

Bob Weber, code consultant and former Building Official and Director of the Clark County, Nevada, Building Department, received the 2008 Bobby J. Fowler Award during the 2008 Annual Conference in Minneapolis.

The most prestigious of the Code Council’s honors, the Fowler Award is presented to an individual whose contributions to the building and fire safety industry advance the Council’s goals in achieving a safer built environment. Particular emphasis is placed on the recipient’s holistic view in achieving the stated goal and displays a focus beyond local or regional concerns to issues and activities that span the globe. The recipient will have been a leader in the industry and have a legacy of service with integrity, professionalism and compassion in furthering the cause of the International Code Council.

“I'm extremely honored to be recognized for the Bobby Fowler Award," said Weber. "Bob was a great friend. I knew him back in the late 70's when we began interfacing in conference activities, code changes and other issues. Bob was a fun guy and kept things very interesting with his great Texan drawl and sense of humor, but he also had a tremendous insight for code development design activities and I learned a great deal from Bob over the years. It’s really been a pleasure to serve in this organization and work with many of you over the years.”

Weber was honored for his career accomplishments that include serving as chairman of the Code Drafting Committee that produced the ICC Performance Code for Buildings and Facilities. He was also a member the State of Nevada Public Works Board, the Governor’s Blue Ribbon Commission on Fire Safety for the Study of Building and Fire Codes, and served as chairman of the Board of Fire Safety of the Nevada Fire Marshal’s Office. Weber is a past member of the Boards of Directors for the International Conference of Building Officials (ICBO), the ICBO Evaluation Service and the International Fire Code Institute. He has served on dozens of other boards and committees in Las Vegas, the state of Nevada and nationally.

“Bob’s knowledge of architecture and engineering, as well as his capabilities in leading one of the most successful code enforcement agencies in the world, earns him a place in Code Council history,” Awards Committee Chairman Tim Ryan said in presenting the Fowler plaque to Weber.

After leaving Clark County in 2001, Weber formed a private consulting firm which specializes in building codes, design solutions for buildings, and regulatory program development.
