| The International Code Council and U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding to forge a stronger relationship between the two organizations to further green building practices. During a recent meeting at Code Council Headquarters in Washington‚ D.C.‚ representatives from the two organizations discussed potential intersections and opportunities relating to educational‚ business and policy initiatives. |

Urge Senators to Support CBCAG Act |
| Although the U.S. Senate does not convene its next session until November 17‚ advocates of the Community Building Code Administration Grant (CBCAG) Act are encouraged to contact their Senators to seek support for the legislation that is currently being considered by the Senate Banking Committee. Louisiana homes and businesses built under requirements established by the International Codes fared well during Hurricanes Gustav and Ike the Associated Press reported in several media outlets. Buildings in Cameron Parish that did not comply with the new statewide guidelines did not survive‚ Tina Horn‚ administrator for the southwestern Louisiana parish‚ told the Louisiana Recovery Authority’s board of directors. “It just says a lot about the wind code and elevation requirements‚” Horn said. more>> |

NIST Praises Final Action Hearing Results |

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has praised the results of the Code Council’s Final Action Hearings last month in Minneapolis‚ expressing support for ICC’s governmental consensus process and the treatment given to proposed code changes supported by the agency‚ despite the fact that not all of the measures were approved by Council voting members. more>> |

Project H.E.R.O. Benefits from MOU |

Representatives from the International Code Council Foundation (ICCF) and Rebuilding Together this week signed a Memorandum of Understanding to partner on the Project H.E.R.O. program. Rebuilding Together is a national organization with a network of nearly 225 affiliates across the U.S. with the mission to preserve affordable housing by bringing volunteers and communities together to rehabilitate the homes of low-income homeowners. The nonprofit believes that our nation’s veterans with disabilities deserve a helping hand and they have a dedicated Veterans Department to specifically support those efforts. more>> |

After 23 years of war and isolation‚ Afghanistan is rebuilding with help from the International Code Council Foundation. Code Council representatives traveled to Kabul‚ Afghanistan‚ to meet with representatives from the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Ministry of Urban Development to strengthen construction-oriented ministries in the areas of building safety and fire prevention codes. more>> |

The Department of Municipal Affairs (DMA) of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Code Council. The MOU covers services with the DMA that include adoption of the International Building Code‚ and lays the foundation for the development of the Abu Dhabi International Building Code‚ which are the standards that will guide the development of construction projects in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. more>> |

Code Council Board Immediate Past President Steve Shapiro and COO Dominic Sims held successful meetings with representatives from the Standards Institute of Israel‚ the Ministry of Construction and Housing, and government universities during a trip to Tel Aviv. Shapiro and Sims gave an overview of the Code Council‚ the International Codes‚ plan review and inspection‚ and discussed partnership opportunities on issues such as tall buildings‚ response to terrorist activities‚ licensing and training. While touring a government facility‚ Shapiro and Sims also learned how Israel manages its water resources by implementing efficiency measures such as waterless urinals. |

Delegation Learns about ICC Programs |
The International Code Council recently hosted a delegation from Russia’s Far East‚ Georgia and Ukraine to discuss building safety codes and energy efficiency. Code Council representatives provided an overview of the U.S. regulatory system and Council programs. The delegation of 16 construction professionals learned about innovative construction techniques and energy efficiency design during their American tour to bring home new technology and management skills to their respective countries. more>> |

Accreditation in the Metal Building Industry |

| Providing metal building manufacturers‚ builders and customers with credible information to streamline approvals of metal building systems—helping to speed and improve the overall building process—the International Accreditation Service approved new accreditation criteria for inspection programs for manufacturers of metal building systems (AC472). The AC472 accreditation program‚ which in 2009 replaces the AISC-MB certification‚ promises to have a positive impact on metal building system construction. more>> |
