International Code Council Chief Operating Officer Dominic Sims Keynotes at 2009 EnergyValue Housing Awards

Annual Award Program Honors Top Builders of Energy-Efficient and Green Homes

Dominic Sims, Chief Operating Officer of the International Code Council (ICC), delivered the keynote address at the National Association of Home Builders' (NAHB) 14th Annual EnergyValue Housing Awards (EVHA) ceremony. The NAHB Research Center presents the awards to honor builders who voluntarily incorporate energy efficiency into all aspects of new home construction. Twelve home builders received the 2009 EVHA. The event kicked off the 2009 International Builders Show in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Sims shared the Code Council's vision, policies and initiatives for advancing green and energy-efficient construction with an audience of builders, government officials, scientists, product manufacturers and others attending the January 19th awards dinner.

"The International Code Council is taking an active role in responsible activities that are environmentally and economically sustainable," said Sims. "Building safety professionals can have a positive impact on the environment and the green building movements, through a strong commitment to participating in activities that will assure green building practices are safe and sustainable."

The International Code Council is dedicated to developing and maintaining a single set of comprehensive and coordinated model codes for the built environment. In 2007, the Code Council and NAHB joined their efforts in developing the first ANSI standard for green residential construction – the National Green Building Standard.

"ICC has long been recognized as an advocate for energy efficiency and the green building commitment that is honored by thisaward," said Michael Luzier, president of the NAHB Research Center. "It is most fitting that the dedication to sustainability reflected in the focus of the ICC be recognized by those who put those standards to the test on a daily basis."
