The Vermont Building Safety Association (State Chapter) sponsored its first Code Council Training Course: 2006 IBC Update with Vermont Amendments. Chapter President Rob Pickett reported that the program was a great success, with 80 paid attendees and 15 design professionals signing on as new Chapter members.

The course, held June 18 at the Vermont Technical College, was offered to support Vermont's transition to the 2006 International Building Code (IBC), which became effective as the statewide building code on June 15. The course was modified with the assistance of Robert Howe and Stan Baranowski (State Fire Marshal Office) to include the Vermont amendments. Both Howe and Baranowski assisted Code Council Government Relations staff member Bruce Johnson in teaching the course and addressing questions on Vermont's amendments and the administrative procedures of the State Fire Marshal's office, which has responsibility for administration of the Vermont Fire and Building Safety Code.
