City of Greer inspector Tommy Freeman was honored September 11 with the top honor presented by the South Carolina Plumbing, Mechanical, and Gas Inspectors Association.

Freeman accepted the 2009 Inspector of the Year award during the association's annual meeting in Myrtle Beach. The award is voted on by the association's members based on nominations.

"This recognition by his peers is statewide validation of Tommy's reputation as a consummate professional," said Phil Rhoads, director of the City of Greer's Building and Development Standards department. "We're fortunate to have someone with his knowledge and skills working to ensure the integrity of construction in the city and the safety of our residents."

Freeman joined the City of Greer in 1998 and is responsible for all aspects of building inspection. A certified plan reviewer, he also assists with those responsibilities in the department. He currently serves on the South Carolina Plumbing, Gas and Mechanical Inspectors Board of Directors.
