Zubia Discusses Strategic Initiatives with U.S. Fire Administrator

Code Council Board President Adolf Zubia met with U.S. Fire Administrator Kelvin Cochran at FEMA headquarters in Washington, D.C., to discuss how the Council can work with the U.S. Fire Administration to achieve the strategic initiatives set by the Administrator. These initiatives include:

•Improving fire prevention and life safety.
•An assessment of firefighters' line of duty death and injuries.
•The viability of federal grants to meet local fire service needs.
•Professional development for the fire service.
•Emergency medical services.
•A review of the effectiveness and use of the National Fire Incident Reporting System (NFIRS).
•Ongoing maintenance and renovation of the National Emergency Training Center in Emmitsburg, Maryland.

There was a very productive exchange of information and several action items were identified.
