Safety Spotlight: David Frable

David FrableThis issue of ICC eNews is dedicated to senior fire protection engineer David Frable for his efforts to include occupant evacuation elevator provisions in building codes. The evacuation elevator proposal grew out of research on various aspects of building evacuation, including fire service access elevators, data collection of building evacuations and elevator enclosure issues. In September 2008, the proposal was approved by voting members of the International Code Council for the 2009 edition of the International Building Code. more>>

Moore Agrees to Sponsor CBCAG Act in 2009

Code Council representatives met with Congressman Dennis Moore (D-KS) on Capitol Hill to discuss the fate of the Community Building Code Administration Grant (CBCAG) Act. Passed by the House of Representatives on voice vote last year, the CBCAG Act will provide federal grants, locally matched, for jurisdictions to enhance their building and fire code administration and enforcement capabilities. Representative Moore was a prime sponsor of the CBCAG Act in the House in 2008 and has agreed to reintroduce the legislation this year. more>>

Advisory–CP 28 Changes Address
Code Development

The Code Council Board of Directors adopted changes to address code development as part of its ongoing process to update and revise procedures. These changes are the latest in a series of revisions based on several years of work by the Task Force on Hearings, and significant feedback from members expressing a desire to streamline procedures at code hearings. These changes accompany the previously announced changes to the Code Hearings Schedule, and are also designed to clarify issues raised since the announcement of the code schedule revision. more>>

Survey Says: 2009 IECC Will Boost Energy Efficiency

The 2009 International Energy Conservation Code is featured in the economic stimulus package as a pre-requisite for states to accept federal energy assistance grants, which will lead to widespread enforcement activities to ensure eligibility for federal funds. According to a recent study released by the Energy Efficient Codes Coalition, homes built to the new code will reduce energy use by at least 12.2 percent and generate savings for homeowners. more>>
