Proposed changes to the Code Council By-Laws and revisions to the Code Development Process were the main topics discussed during the Town Hall Meeting at the 2009 Codes Forum in New Orleans. After several years of input from members and stakeholders in the building safety industry, the ICC Board of Director's Task Force on Hearings unveiled its plan to revise the Council's Code Development Process that maintains a three-year publication cycle and the ICC Governmental Consensus Process. A Board President's Advisory Committee also proposed changes to the Council's By-Laws regarding voting eligibility and procedures. more>> |

Redeveloping the Lower 9th Ward |
|
In addition to classroom training, 2009 Codes Forum participants experienced a one-of-a-kind learning opportunity by touring the redevelopment of the historic Lower 9th Ward of New Orleans, a neighborhood devastated by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. A catalyst in the effort has been the Make It Right Foundation, which emphasizes rebuilding homes that are safe, sustainable and affordable. Stimulus Package Includes Grant Program to Enhance Building Code Enforcement |
Hidden in the details of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act is a large fund of available grant money to help building safety departments increase training and staffing as long as there is some relationship to energy code enforcement. What does this mean to you? Because $1.36 billion per year, or a total of $2.72 billion over two years, is entitlement funding, any city or county that qualifies can receive funding to support its building code development and enforcement activities. more>> |

Demonstrating its commitment to national energy efficiency, the International Code Council participated in the Great Energy Efficiency Day event in Washington, D.C. Code Council Vice President of Federal and External Relations David Karmol was a presenter on the basics of code development and adoption, and the critical importance of adoption efforts and compliance and training. Significant Code Change to Grease Duct Wrap |
Grease duct enclosure systems recognized in ICC-ES legacy Evaluation Reports have been required since January 1 to comply with the ICC-ES Acceptance Criteria for Grease Duct Enclosure Systems (AC101), ASTM E 2336 or UL 2221. Similar action is being taken by agencies that list products to those standards. As of January 1, grease duct enclosure systems are no longer recognized in ICC-ES legacy reports if their recognition was based on qualification under UL 1978. more>> |
