Building Energy Efficiency a Big Winner
in the Final Stimulus Bill |
In the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009—signed by President Obama in February—there is $3.1 billion available for State Energy Programs directed to building energy efficiency initiatives. Stimulus allocations are targeted to State Energy Offices developing unique programs to implement statewide adoptions of a building energy code for residential construction that meets or exceeds the 2009 International Energy Conservation Code. ICC-ES PMG Clarifies NSF 61 Annex G Versus California 0.25 Percent Lead Legislation |
As manufacturers prepare products for compliance with the 0.25-percent California lead legislation, some listing agencies claim they can certify these products in accordance with NSF 61 Annex G entitled, "Weighted Average Lead Content Evaluation Procedure to a 0.25% Lead Requirement." At least one listing agency maintains it already has certified manufacturers' products. The problem is there is no current existing protocol to certify products to the California lead legislation. more>> |

Pool Safety Prevails |
During the Final Action Hearings in Minneapolis, Code Council voting members overwhelmingly approved the ANSI/APSP-7 Suction Entrapment Avoidance Standard for the 2009 editions of the International Building Code (IBC) and International Residential Code (IRC). The ANSI/APSP-7 standard is incorporated in the body of the 2009 IBC and in Appendix G of the 2009 IRC. While other existing ANSI/APSP standards are referenced in Appendix G of the IRC, this will be the first time an Association of Pool & Spa Professionals (APSP) standard will be adopted into the body of the IBC. more>> |
