Zubia's Second Fireside Chat Addresses Important Organizational Issues

 

The ICC Board adopted changes to address code development as part of its ongoing process to update and revise procedures. These changes are based on several years of work by the Task Force on Hearings, and significant feedback from members expressing a desire to streamline procedures at code hearings. more>>

The ICC Board acted on recommendations to amend Bylaws addressing voter eligibility and voting procedures developed by the President’s Advisory Committee. These proposals could be placed on the Annual Business Meeting agenda for a vote of the membership on November 3, in Baltimore, Maryland. more>>

An amendment to Article IV of the ICC Bylaws was passed and approved at the 2008 Annual Business Meeting in Minneapolis. This amendment alters the composition of the ICC Board to eight Directors-at-Large and six Sectional Directors. more>>

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 includes $3.4 billion in energy assistance grants for states if the 2009 International Energy Conservation Code is adopted and administered. Tools to help ICC members and member jurisdictions apply for funding under the Act is available. more>>

U.S. Senators Mel Martinez (R-FL) and Mary Landrieu (D-LA) re-introduced ICC’s Community Building Code Administration Grant Act in both the House and Senate on May 5 during ICC’s Building Safety Week activities. The Act establishes a competitive grant program to help local governments with building code enforcement, property maintenance and security. more>>

In March, ICC issued an update on its financial condition in light of the severe economic recession. more>>

Code Council Board of Directors President Adolf Zubia outlines several organizational initiatives during his second Fireside Chat. The event was part of Building Safety Week activities in Washington, D.C.

International Code Council Board President Adolf Zubia and Chief Executive Officer Rick Weiland discussed important organizational issues during the Fireside Chat that was part of this year's Building Safety Week activities. President Zubia updated attendees on recent changes to the Council's code development process, proposed changes to the Code Council Bylaws, and the new three-year election process that will include sectional and at-large representation on the Board of Directors.

Weiland discussed the International Energy Conservation Code being included in the economic stimulus package and the Council's efforts to have the Community Building Code Administrative Grant Act reintroduced in Congress. Both Zubia and Weiland weighed in on the economic health of the organization.
