Richard Hulen Named Crown Point Employee of the Month

Richard Hulen, full-time building inspector for the City of Crown Point, Indiana, was named March’s Employee of the Month for being the first building inspector in the city to hold national certifications from the International Code Council and Commercial and Residential Inspector. With over 24 years of experience in the building trades, Hulen came to the city over six months ago and has worked extremely hard to receive the national certifications and to increase quality inspections and above-the-mark customer service during inspections.

“Up-front and direct communication allows me to explain the reason for the red tag and prevent the issue from becoming worse and to keep the project moving,” Hulen said. He would like to look into receiving more prestigious certifications in the future, but notes the support of his co-workers and wife was a true motivation in receiving his two most recent certifications.

In order to reward the City of Crown Point's hard-working employees, Mayor David D.F. Uran created the "Employee of the Month" program to recognize the exceptional performance of city employees while encouraging all employees to go above and beyond their job description. The city's Special Events Department, in collaboration with the Crown Point Chamber of Commerce, select one employee each month to receive the award.
