Innovative Insulation from Demilec Is Energy Efficient, Environmentally Friendly
For centuries, castor oil has been thought to have healing powers. Today, it has insulating powers. The rapidly renewable resource is taking the place of petroleum-based products in spray foam insulation, making the insulation more environmentally friendly. Leading the way is Demilec, a manufacturer of residential and commercial spray foam insulation. One of Demilec's newest products, SEALECTION Agribalance, contains 10 percent bio-based content, as verified by ICC Evaluation Service® (ICC-ES®) through its Sustainable Attributes Verification and Evaluation™ (SAVE™) Program. By replacing petroleum-based products with castor oil, SEALECTION Agribalance is utilizing a natural, rapidly renewable, non-food resource. Demilec's semi-rigid, open-cell, low-density foam also is water-blown, making it free of CFCs and HCFCs. more>>

Florida Building Commission Approves ICC-ES Evaluated Tamlyn Wood Connectors
Wood structural connector products evaluated and validated by the ICC Evaluation Service® (ICC-ES®) have been approved by the Florida Building Commission. The Commission has approved R.H. Tamlyn and Sons (Tamlyn) wood structural connector products for use throughout Florida. ICC-ES is an independent evaluator sanctioned by the Florida legislature. The Tamlyn connectors have been found in compliance with the Florida construction codes, making them acceptable to every Florida jurisdiction within the scope of the individual evaluation reports.

Tamlyn wood structural connectors include single, double, truss and special joist hangers as well as rafter ties, flat wall braces, hurricane straps and nail plates. The ICC-ES validation confirmed that Tamlyn wood structural connectors have a current ICC-ES Evaluation Report® with a Florida supplement. The validation also verified that the manufacturer's instructions provided in the ICC-ES Evaluation Report is in accordance with the evaluation report and that a quality assurance program audited by a Florida Building Commission-approved, third-party quality assurance agency is in place.

The Tamlyn wood structural connectors also demonstrate compliance with the 2006 International Building Code® (IBC), 2006 International Residential Code® (IRC) and the SBCCI Standard for Hurricane Resistant Residential Construction per ICC-ES Evaluation Report ESR-1347.

The dual role of ICC-ES as an independent evaluator for Florida is an added value for ICC-ES report holders, providing a cost-saving, turnkey service for manufacturers seeking evaluation and validation that their products are code compliant in Florida.
