The Clark County Department of Development Services—Building Division was recognized at the 2009 ICC Annual Conference in Baltimore for achieving Building Department Accreditation by the International Accreditation Service. Ron Lynn, Director and Building Official for the Clark County building department was presented with a plaque commemorating this achievement during the awards luncheon on November 4, 2009.

IAS Building Department Accreditation is a nationally recognized program created by the IAS, a subsidiary of ICC. It is based on accreditation criteria developed in public hearings and approved by building officials and uses evaluation teams comprised of practicing building officials. Accreditation under the program provides independent verification that building departments operate under the highest ethical, legal and technical standards while providing enhanced life safety and property protection for its citizens.

Clark County was evaluated across 13 distinct categories of criteria and underwent rigorous assessments to earn accreditation. IAS evaluation teams assessed critical elements of the department including customer service and its processes for permitting, plan review, code interpretation and code enforcement. The on-site teams also visited construction sites to appraise the performance of the department’s inspection process in real-life situations.

IAS Honors MBMA for Contribution to Accreditation Program

The International Accreditation Service (IAS), an ICC subsidiary, recognized the Metal Building Manufacturers Association (MBMA) at the 2009 ICC Annual Conference in Baltimore for its contribution to the development of the IAS accreditation program for the inspection of manufacturers of metal building systems.

This new, comprehensive accreditation program is based on the requirements of Chapter 17 of the International Building Code (IBC) and provides code officials with a means to approve the inspection programs of manufacturers of metal building systems under IBC Section 1704.2.2 Fabricator Approval.

The program was initiated when the MBMA approached IAS in October 2007 on behalf of the metal building industry to consider developing criteria that would serve its members while fulfilling the needs of code officials and other regulatory agencies.

The IAS program requires accredited fabricators to implement a comprehensive quality management system covering all phases of its fabrication processes. The IAS Accreditation Criteria (AC472) addresses quality management system elements, technical requirements and includes periodic auditing of fabrication processes which are essential for code officials to deem IAS-accredited metal building manufacturers as approved fabricators. Several code officials served on the committee that approved AC472 on which the program is based. Click here for more information about the accreditation program.
