USDA Forest Products Lab Releases The Wood Handbook 2010 Centennial Edition

The USDA recently announced the release of The Wood Handbook 2010 Centennial Edition with the followiong statement:

"FPL is proud to present the new 2010 edition of the Wood Handbook-Wood as an Engineering Material, prepared and updated to include fascinating new developments in the field of wood utilization and released as part of the celebration of the Forest Products Laboratory's first 100 years of service to the public." Electronic versions of each chapter are available, free of charge, by clicking on the link above.

This is the first USDA Forest Products Lab document to reference the following ICC-ES Evaluation Reports as wood treatments in compliance with the International Building Code: ESR-1721, ESR-1980, ESR-2067, ESR-2240, ESR-2325 was canceled and merged with ESR-2240, and ESR-2711. Chapter 11 of The Wood Handbook 2010 covers Wood-Based Composit Materials on page 11-16. Chapter 15 covers Wood Preservaton. Table 15-1 provides minimum retention and use categories for proprietary wood teatments listed in ICC-ES Evaluation Reports and AWPA Standardized wood treatments. Page 15-9 provides more information on the proprietary wood treatments listed in ICC-ES Evaluation Reports. Chapter 18 covers Fire Safety of Wood Construction, including fire-resistive ratings of assemblies for products on page 18-2 and fire-retardant-treated wood and AC66 on pages 18-5 and 18-7.
