IBA Is First to Meet New York City Code Requirements for Special Inspection Agency Accreditation
Israel Berger & Associates (IBA), a recognized consulting and inspection group specializing in building envelope technologies, is the first Special Inspection Agency to meet the New York City Department of Buildings requirements for accreditation through the International Accreditation Service (IAS) AC291 Special Inspection Agency Accreditation Program.

Along with its adoption of the 2003 International Building Code, the New York City Construction Codes now include a requirement that all special inspection agencies must be accredited by IAS or an equivalent accreditation agency by July 2010. "The IAS accreditation program provides a comprehensive process for assessing organizations involved in special inspections and many building departments rely on it to verify that inspection agencies are competent and qualified to work in their jurisdictions. NYC Special Inspection Agency Accreditation Training
The International Accreditation Service (IAS), an approved accreditation provider by the New York City (NYC) Department of Buildings (DOB), is conducting a special training event to assist special inspection agencies in preparing for the accreditation, March 11-12, in West Nyack, New York. The NYC DOB has a new requirement for special inspection agencies to become accredited by July 1, 2010. This training session has been approved by the Practicing Institute of Engineering, Inc. (PIE) for compliance with NYC Mandatory Continuing Education requirements for Professional Engineers for 12.5 PDH(s).

Learn the Value of Building Department Accreditation
ICC Chapters interested in learning more about the IAS Building Department Accreditation (BDA) Program should schedule a presentation for a monthly chapter meeting. This presentation answers questions about the value of building department accreditation, highlights the benefits of operational efficiency and effectiveness, and is available to all ICC Chapters and building departments. Chapters are only responsible for travel costs of the presenter.

IAS Presents at Upcoming Measurement Science Conference
Hershal Brewer, Principal Accreditation Officer for the IAS Calibration Laboratory Accreditation Program, will give a presentation titled, "Accrediting a University Laboratory to ISO 17025: UC San Diego Englekirk Engineering Center and IAS Partnership" March 23 at the 2010 Measurement Science Conference at the Pasadena Convention Center.

IAS Presents Service Award to Roy Itani
International Accreditation Service President Chuck Ramani joined a large group of code officials on January 9 in Downey, California to felicitate outgoing chapter officers and to welcome the incoming leaders at the ICC Los Angeles Basin Chapter Annual Installation Banquet, which was held with a grand Hawaiian Luau theme.

The day began with an 18-hole round of golf tournament, continued with happy hour and concluded with the dinner and installation program. International Code Council CEO Rick Weiland joined Ramani during presentation of a service award to the outgoing Chapter President Roy Itani, P.E., of the Los Angeles County Building Department.
