State Insurance Commissioner Leslie A. Newman was presented the Tennessee Building Officials Association's (TBOA) Code Official of the Year Award during the chapter's 47th Annual Conference in Gatlinburg. Newman was honored for her efforts to have modern building and fire codes adopted in the state. She was applauded for her open door policy and work with state code officials to build consensus support for the new codes, and for her work with members of the Tennessee State Legislature during the adoption process.
Newman was appointed in 2007 by Governor Phil Bredesen to lead the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance, which performs a variety of regulatory functions and also houses the state fire marshal’s office and consumer affairs. She previously served as an associate attorney for the Metropolitan Nashville Department of Law, and her private practice included a focus on land use, zoning, urban and municipal law, and government relations. more>>
Tim Ward, Division Manager of the Community Development Department for the City of Oak Ridge, Tennessee, received the TBOA Lifetime Achievement Award-the highest honor of the organization. |
