The Southern New Mexico Building Officials Association (SNMBOA), New Mexico Fire Marshals Association (NMFMA), New Mexico Council of Code Officials (NMCCO), Central New Mexico Chapter of Building Officials (CNMCBO), and Northern New Mexico Association of Public Safety Officials (NNMAPSO) held its Joint Training Conference April 10-12 in New Mexico. The joint meeting demonstrates the unity of New Mexico fire and building chapters, which have been conducting joint training in Ruidoso each Spring for a number of years. All five New Mexico chapters were represented at the conference.
The three local building chapters formed a state association last year and achieved International Code Council recognition as an ICC State Chapter in Charlotte, North Carolina. The new state chapter—the New Mexico Council of Code Officials—held its first general membership meeting for 2011 in conjunction with the Spring Training Conference hosted by the Southern New Mexico Building Officials Association and the New Mexico Fire Marshals Association.
International Code Council Board member Ravi Shah, Government Relations Senior Vice President Sara Yerkes and Luci Vallejo installed the NMCCO Chapter officers, presented the Chapter with its ICC chapter Plaque and Banner, and recognized Past Presidents of the Chapters with Past President certificates signed by Code Council CEO Rick Weiland and Board President Jimmy Brothers. NMFMA Past President Travis Brown and SNMBOA Past President Fred Knapp received the Past President awards. Shah and Yerkes also addressed the group as keynote speakers.
Shah and Code Council Regional Manager David Nichols attended the Conference's opening cook, and all ICC staff and Board present attended the NMFMA and NMCCO Chapter business meetings as well as the special Awards/Installation luncheon for all of the Chapters.
Code Council Instructor Terrell Stripling instructed participants in the 2009 IFC Fundamentals and 2009 IBC Significant Changes Seminars and Philip Hahn instructed the 2009 IBC Accessibility and Usability Seminar. There were about 70 participants registered for the event.
