The Board (and GR Staff) Goes to Washington; Elected Official of the Year Awards Announced
Last month, to kick off the 2011 Building Safety Month, members of the ICC Executive Board of Directors and staff met in the nation's capital to spread the word among their Congressmen about Building Safety Month and the I-Codes, followed by a reception on the ICC Headquarters rooftop that evening with the Capitol Building serving as an apt backdrop.

President Jimmy Brothers, Vice President Bill Dupler, Secretary-Treasurer Ron Piester, Immediate Past President Ron Lynn, and Director Guy Tomberlin represented the ICC Board, and CEO Rick Weiland, Luci Vallejo, Executive Liaison to the CEO and Senior Manager, Special Events, and Sara Yerkes, Senior Vice President of Government Relations and Government Relations staff David Karmol, Bruce Johnson, Phil McMahan, Justin Wiley and Robert Sale.

During the day, the ICC delegation met went Members and staffers to discuss the importance of Building Safety Month and to remind them about the importance of building codes and good code enforcement, and to offer ICC as a resource for all matters related to building safety. President Jimmy Brothers visited with Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions' staff, just days after the devastating tornadoes swept through the state, to offer ICC's support in code-related rebuilding efforts.

Other Congressional offices visited included Senate Majority Leader Reid, Senators Johnson, Webb, Warner, Gillibrand, Schumer, Heller, and Rubio, as well as Speaker of the House Boehner, House Majority Leader Cantor, and Representatives Connolly, Wolf, King, Forbes, Berkley, Heck, Gibson, and Tonko.

This event was followed by a reception featuring the inaugural Elected Official of the Year Award, which was awarded to South Carolina Senator Phil P. Leventis, New Mexico State Senator Bernadette M. Sanchez, and New Jersey Assemblyman John S. Wisniewski. These elected officials were chosen due to their exceptional level of commitment to code adoption and enforcement.
