ICC Regions Meetings Offer Variety of Activities
Regions meetings will offer a variety of activities this year. Regions Presidents worked with staff this year to retool the Regions meeting schedule to make it more productive and engaging.

 From 4 p.m. - 5 p.m., Regions Members can get "down to business" and hold their annual meeting and elections in their own private meeting room;
 From 5 p.m. - 5:30 p.m., all Members and all those interested in forming one of the inactive Regions (I,II, XI or XII) are invited to meet with current Regions leaders to gather information on how to begin the process and get tips on what has made existing Regions successful and active;
 Then, at 5:40 p.m. all Regions Members are invited to move to a specially designated area in the Expo hall for a private "meet and greet" with the Board candidates. Look for signs advertising the Regions meetings around the convention center and stop by to see what is happening in your Region.

Chapter Golf Challenge in North Texas Benefits a Good Cause
By Brett King | City of Carrollton, Texas
What began as a friendly rivalry between officers of various ICC Chapters in the North Texas area has ended with a new partnership for a good cause. After an earlier episode of ribbing and name-calling at a previous golf tournament, the officers of the Building Officials Association of Texas, the North Texas Chapter of ICC, and ICC Board member Ravi Shah agreed to fund a bet for bragging rights in Texas. Each organization and Ravi put up $200 for those bragging rights, with all of the proceeds benefiting the Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity (DAHH). The BOAT golf tournament was held in 107-degree heat at the end of its Fall Education Conference in August.

The decision was made to give the entire amount to DAHH because it is a natural fit with building officials. Pictured left, North Texas President Robert Chatham presented a check for $600 to Erin Hooper of DAHH at the Chapter's monthly meeting. The Chapters and Ravi have agreed to continue to build on the new relationship.

For some reason, after all was said and done, it was not clear who won besides Habitat for Humanity, as no one seemed to be bragging about golf.

AZBO Names Jack Judd Building Official of the Year

The Arizona Building Officials Association (AZBO) named Yavapai County Chief Building Official Jack Judd as Building Official of the Year during its annual meeting on July 25-27 in Flagstaff.

"I was flabbergasted to just be nominated, and fortunate to receive the award," Judd said.

He said receiving the award places him among some impressive company. "The previous recipients have a vast amount of experience and I totally look up to them. Receiving this honor is a tremendous thing for our department," Judd said.

AZBO named Judd its Building Official of the Year because of his contributions to the organization and the building community. AZBO's three chapters represent from city, town and county building departments throughout the state. Judd serves as a board member for the Grand Canyon Chapter. He currently is the second vice president and in charge of training. "It is kind of time consuming, but very rewarding," he said.

Judd joined the county's development services department in 1999. He has served as the chief building official for the past three years.

Development Services Director Ken Spedding said, "Jack has done an excellent job working with other jurisdictions, and by other jurisdictions I mean cities and towns, and getting folks on the same codes."

"I have a tremendous staff. Without them, this wouldn't happen. You can't do this on your own," Judd said.

Plan Examiner Dan Roberts said Judd's staff is proud of him. "This is the first time someone up here has received this award. He was selected from officials throughout the entire state. It is quite an accomplishment," Roberts said.
