CODE UPDATE: Significant Code Changes to the 2009 International Building Code

An addition to high-rise buildings—occupant evacuation elevators (Section 403.6.2) has been made to the 2009 International Building Code (IBC). Elevators in high-rise buildings are now permitted to be used for occupant self-evacuation where in compliance with the conditions established in Section 3008.
