Annual Reports Due June 1 to Ensure Full Benefits
The Annual Report deadline is quickly approaching. Chapters leaders are encouraged to complete their Annual Report online now to ensure full benefits. By completing your report on time, the Chapter president will receive a complimentary registration to the ICC Annual Conference in Phoenix, Arizona. The Chapter will also qualify to receive a chapter education benefit in 2012. Don't miss out.

Need some tips on how to complete your Chapter Annual Report?

1. You are now required to have a login account on our website in order to update your Chapter information, complete your annual report, or submit a Chapter meeting request form. (You do not have to be a Member of ICC to create a login account.) If you do not have one, you will be prompted to do so when you go to the Annual Report form screen.
2. Be sure to have an electronic copy of your Chapter By-laws and a complete Membership Roster available. You will be asked to up load these documents to your report.
3. You must provide complete contact information for a minimum of four Chapter officers, including phone numbers and email addresses. Your report will be considered incomplete if you do not provide this information.
4. Executive Director position. This seems to confuse a lot of Chapters. This position is to be used to add another individual/contact for your Chapter who is responsible (usually a paid position) for managing your Chapter and who should be copied on all information sent to the President. As a general rule, we send our communications to the President, and copy the Secretary.

Who will be the next Chapter be the next Chapter of the Year (COTY)? Does your chapter have what it takes to be the next Chapter of the Year? There is only one way find out. Complete the COTY application now. COTY applications are due June 1.

2011 Chapter Rewards Program Application Now Available Online
The 2011 Chapter Rewards Program application is now available on the Chapter Information page. This program rewards chapters for participation in ICC and for completing typical chapter tasks. It doesn't cost you a penny to apply and you can earn additional discounts and more free stuff from ICC. Applications are due on December 1.

Here's how it works. The Chapter Rewards program runs on a three-year cycle. Complete qualifying activities one year, report the activities the second year and REDEEM your rewards the third year. For the 2011 program, you will be reporting on activities your Chapter completed last year (2010), you will submit your report this year, and receive Certificates redeemable for NEXT YEAR. All certificates expire by the end of the redemption period so be sure to use them up. Any questions, contact Chapter staff.

SN-ICC Takes Lead in Protecting Children from Drowning
Southern Nevada's newest coalition, the Southern Nevada Child Drowning Prevention Coalition (SNCDPC), has many SN-ICC links. In addition to the several SN-ICC members who have joined this safety group, North Las Vegas Building Official and SN-ICC member Greg Blackburn was selected as the SNCDPC's chair.

As one of his first activities as chair, Greg lead the coalition at a press conference on April 1, otherwise known as "April Pools Day," to highlight pool safety. The news conference was staged on April 1 specifically to get the message out prior to the start of the swim season. Since 2000, on average 8 children have drown each year in Southern Nevada. The majority of those drowning deaths took the lives of children 4 years old or younger.

Clark County Commissioner Susan Brager and Henderson Councilwoman Gerri Schroder were two of the featured speakers at the press conference.

Many of the SNCDPC's members were part of a taskforce that tried to persuade the 2009 and 2011 Nevada Legislature to enact the Nevada Child Drowning Prevention Act (NCDPA). The Act would have created a state pool code requiring homeowners to install secondary barriers (fences, door alarms) upon the sale of a home. The NCDPA taskforce was chaired by Ron Lynn, the Building Official for Clark County and the International Code Council's current immediate past president.

Due to resistance from real estate lobbyists, the NCDPA taskforce decided in the fall of 2010 to disband and create the SNCDPC to focus on regional drowning prevention efforts rather than legislation.

OBOA Hosts Annual Joint Conference with COCOA
The Ohio Building Officials’ Association (OBOA) hosted its Annual Joint Conference with the Central Ohio Code Officials Association (COCOA) in Columbus, Ohio. The event was held March 6-8 in the Hyatt Regency and Columbus Convention Center. Code Council Board members Stephen Jones and Cash Olszowy, Executive Vice President of Training David Dufresne, and Senior Regional Director of Government Relations Corey M. Roblee were in attendance.

The conference featured three days of education, business meetings, and special events, including a performance by the “Green Tags,” a rock band composed of OBOA members. Roblee addressed the membership during their annual luncheon and introduced Ohio Director of Commerce, David Goodman, and ICC’s David Dufresne who provided the keynote addresses. Jones was the featured speaker during the annual banquet and installed the newly elected officers with Olszowy.

During the conference, The Ohio Board of Building Standards commemorated the 100th Anniversary of building codes in the State of Ohio beginning in 1911.
