ICC, NFPA Create Coalition to Advance Public Safety in the Built Environment
The International Code Council (ICC) and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) created the Coalition for Current Safety Codes (CCSC) to advance public safety in the built environment by advocating states and municipal jurisdictions adopt current building, fire prevention, sustainable, electrical and life safety codes. ICC and NFPA will seek participation in the coalition from other standard development organizations, the construction and insurance industries, government and the private sector. New System Further Enhances Integrity of the Code Development Process and Voting Members

The International Code Council is launching a new way to designate Governmental Voting Representatives to vote on code changes. The Electronic Voter Designation System safeguards the integrity, fairness and transparency of the ICC Code Development Process. The questionnaire must be completed by the primary representative by September 21, 2012. Click here for details about the improved process.

Updated to Include Group C

To ensure there is enough time to thoroughly consider a large number of expected code change proposals for the Group B codes, the ICC Board of Directors has approved a Group C Cycle of Code Development in 2014. The International Green Construction Code will be relocated from its current position in Group B to the Group C cycle. Read the updated schedule.


Bill Highlights the Importance of
I-Codes in Reconstruction

Legislation to provide business tax credits for contractors who construct new "resilient" buildings following a disaster has been introduced by Kentucky Congressman Geoff Davis. HR 5839 provides maximum tax credits of $3,000 (residential) and $25,000 (commercial) when the buildings meet requirements outlined in the 2009 International Building and Residential Codes. ICC Continues Its Renewed Focus
on Training & Education

ICC has taken another step to advance the quality of its training and education offerings to support learning and career advancement for its Members and other building safety and the construction industry professionals. Long-time ICC instructor, author and technical expert Doug Thornburg will lead an effort to coordinate, review and develop technical content for ICC education programs and seminars.


Get Ready for the
2012 Hurricane Season

June marks the start of the 2012 Atlantic hurricane season and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration predicts this season could produce as many as 15 tropical storms, with half of those strenthening into hurricanes. The Code Council is working with its state and local partners to prepare for the hurricane season and offers safety tips to help you get ready, as well.

 


  2012 Building Safety Month Celebrated
across International Borders
For the first time, the Republic of Kosova, the newest Albanian state in southeastern Europe, celebrated Building Safety Month with the motto, "To live in a safe environment." This year's observance was hosted by the Association of Planners of Kosova, and included presentations and lectures to school children in the capitol of Prishtina, a visit to a local construction site to introduce University of Prishtina students to safe construction principles and standards, and a tour of the city's Department of Urban Planning, Building and Environmental Protection for an overview of procedures that citizens and companies should follow in order to receive building permits. The 2012 Annual Conference and Group A Final Action Hearings in Portland, Ore., offer opportunities to participate in the development of the 2015 I-Codes, attend training sessions, participate in Membership Councils’ meetings and network with peers. Registration is now open for the Oct. 21-28 event.





  Code Council Seeks Nominations for Awards
Safe communities don't happen by chance. The Code Council is seeking nominations for individuals or groups whose contributions to building safety, code enforcement, public service, community service or fire prevention are commendable. The deadline for submissions is July 25.

  I-Code Exam Availability Update
Computer-based testing for the 2012 I-Codes exams will be available in January. The exams are available now in pencil and paper format. Computer-based and paper and pencil exams also are available for the 2009 I-Codes. The 2006 I-Codes exams are available in paper and pencil format. Development Committee Members
If you have ever been interested in the development and maintenance of the ICC National Certification exams, now is the time to lend your expertise to the process. ICC Certification and Testing is seeking volunteers to serve in several areas on the Building and Residential Plans Exam Development Committees (EDC). Besides helping ICC to ensure the certification exams are valid, reliable, fair defensible, participation on an EDC earns continuing education unit credits toward renewal of your certifications.   ICC and ASABE to Collaborate on New Landscape Irrigation Standard
The Code Council and the American Society of Agricultural & Biological Engineers (ASABE) announced their intention to jointly develop a new ANSI standard, designated as "ASABE/ICC Landscape Irrigation Sprinkler and Emitter Standard" that will establish requirements for landscape sprinklers and emitters. The new standard will address design, performance and uniform testing and assessment methods for these devices.



  ICC-ES Environmental Programs Launches New EPD Program
ICC Evaluation Service (ICC-ES) Environmental Programs is announcing the launch of a new program, the Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) Program. EPDs are designed to meet the global market demand for science-based, transparent, quality assured information about product environmental performance.
