Arson-Fighting Dogs Honored with Monument in Washington, D.C.

Sara Yerkes and Sean Wallace of the Code Council's Government Relations Department attended the unveiling of the National Fire Dog Monument in Washington, D.C. The seven-foot-tall, 450-pound bronze statue of a firefighter and arson dog will be fixed permanently at a fire station that is located near the U.S. Capitol.

The National Fire Dog Monument was created to honor certified accelerant detection K-9 Teams for their service to the communities they serve. These K-9 teams are committed to responding to extremely hazardous incidents to reduce the negative impact of arson in their communities. The monument design is a standing firefighter looking down on his Labrador Retriever who is looking back up at his handler ready to work. The monument is titled "From Ashes to Answers."

The monument unveiling culminated a 12-city roadshow that began in Denver and included stops in Chicago, Indianapolis and New York City.
