Lynn Receives Prestigious Ronald H. Brown Award
at Washington, D.C. Ceremony
Former Code Council Board of Directors President Ron Lynn was presented the 2012 Ronald H. Brown Standards Leadership Award by the U.S. Planning Committee of World Standards Day. This Committee represents the U.S. codes and standards community. In accepting this prestigious award, Lynn talked about the important role the I-Codes play in ensuring the public safety and greatly reducing the carnage and cost of natural disasters. He made the point that professional codes and standards require professional code enforcement and he gave credit to his colleagues: "I did not earn this award alone. I represent the many code professionals who develop, adopt, enforce and maintain our system of codes and standards."

Lynn also has been appointed to the National Earthquake Hazard Reduction Program Advisory Committee on Earthquake Hazards Reduction (ACEHR), and the National Institute of Building Sciences Building Seismic Safety Council. The ACEHR advises Patrick Gallagher, Undersecretary of Commerce for Standards Technology and Director of the of the U.S. Department of Commerce's National Institute of Standards and Technology trends and developments in the science and engineering of earthquake hazards reduction. The Building Seismic Safety Council develops and promotes building earthquake risk mitigation regulatory provisions for the nation.

Lynn, Director/Building Official for the Clark County, Nevada, Department of Development Services, is Chairman of the Nevada Earthquake Safety Council and the Western States Seismic Policy Council Architect & Engineering Committee. Additionally, he has served on a variety of local, state and national committees, participating with model code organizations, standards making bodies, task force committees, and strategic endeavors. He is a past member of the Board of Directors of the International Accreditation Service, a past member of the Community College of Southern Nevada Technical Advisory Committee, and currently is on the Board of Managers for the ICC Evaluation Service. He serves as Chairman for the following organizations: McCarran Airport Hazards Area Board of Adjustment; Nevada Earthquake Safety Council; Nevada Organization of Building Officials; and the Western States Seismic Policy Council's Architecture, Engineering and Construction Committee. He is also serving as a member of the Nevada State Hazard Mitigation Planning Steering Committee, the Nevada Bureau of Mines & Geology Advisory Committee, and he co-chairs the ICC Major Jurisdictions Steering Committee.

Lynn was the first Chairman of the Board of International Professional Standards for ICC in 1997; chaired the Special Inspections Committee for five years; was awarded the 2009 Superior Technical Achievement Award from Fiatech; was awarded the Associated General Contractors 2002 Government Person of the Year; received an award from the Northwest Ohio Building Officials in 2008; and received the 2009 Industry Person of the Year award from the Southern Nevada Air Conditioning & Heating Association. In 2009, he was recognized by the United States Congress for his contributions in building safety. In 2010, he received the Senatorial Commendation for his commitment to building safety, energy conservation, and emergency response; and the Governor of Nevada declared December 9, 2010, as Ronald L. Lynn Day.

Lynn has been with the Clark County, Nevada, Department of Development Services since February 1981. Clark County is a jurisdiction covering more than 8,000 square miles, encompassing the famous Las Vegas Strip. Lynn frequently lectures on a variety of topics, including department administration, legal aspects of building codes, finance and management, building codes, building performance standards, and construction issues.
