Mike Holmes, Building Safety Month Honorary Ambassador

The ICC Foundation is profoundly honored to announce that HGTV Celebrity Mike Holmes will serve as Honorary Ambassador for 2012 Building Safety Month—An International Celebration of Safe and Sensible Structures. Holmes is lending his voice to Building Safety Month because of his longstanding commitment to building safety, sustainability and his successful record in raising public consciousness with his "Make it Right" message.

Holmes will launch the 2012 campaign through a satellite media tour during morning television and radio programs on Friday, April 27. The tour will be live from his set in Toronto and bring attention to the month-long campaign focus on codes and code officials and their critical role in building safety and sustainability. He will also participate in a variety of public outreach initiatives, including social media, web presence and production of a 30-second Public Service Announcement (PSA). The PSA will help families understand that codes and code officials are their best allies to defend against building failure of any kind and will be available to code officials later this month.

Building Safety Month is made possible through the generous support of sponsors, and this year's list is unprecedented. The Air Movement and Control Association (AMCA) will serve as Presenting Sponsor. According to AMCA Executive Director Wade Smith, "Building Safety is an important factor for the industry, and AMCA members' support this by dedicating time and funding in their efforts to uphold and raise awareness for stronger codes and building practices." He also stated, "Building Safety Month reminds the public, manufacturers and code officials about the importance of building safe, efficient and livable buildings, AMCA Members are proud to be a part of the effort."

BASF—The Chemical Company is sponsor of Energy & Green Building Week once again this year. According to BASF Market & Customer Development, Sustainable Construction Manager Mary Poma, "BASF is proud to sponsor Building Safety Month's Energy Efficiency and Green Building Week because educational programming like Building Safety Month is central to our mission—to make energy-efficient, sustainable, high-performance homes accessible and affordable."

The Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Federal Alliance for Safe Homes are teaming up to present Disaster Safety and Mitigation Week and will bring a host of local and national events under the Building Safety Month campaign umbrella, including launch of the first-ever StormStruck APP for iPhone and iPad, outreach during the USA Science and Engineering Festival in Washington D.C., launch of a new tornado safety campaign, and local events throughout the nation.
