ICC Board Approves 348th Chapter of ICC
The Illinois Mechanical Inspectors Association (IMIA) was granted Chapter status by the ICC Board of Directors on February 24 and became the 348th Chapter of ICC. The IMIA, became incorporated in 2008 and has 29 members from around the state. The membership is primarily Mechanical Inspectors and includes contractors and engineers. The IMIA meets bi-monthly for the encouragement, welfare and enlightenment of code officials culminating in the professional development of themselves and their respective communities.

ICC Attends PMPV Plumbers Apprenticeship Competition
Code Council Board Member Guy Tomberlin and Government Relations Senior Vice President Sara Yerkes attended a plumbers apprenticeship competition on April 11 in Manassas, Virginia, to show the Code Council's support of apprenticeship programs. Copies of the International Plumbing, Fuel Gas and Residential Codes were presented to the three top winners.

The competition was sponsored by the Plumbing and Mechanical Professionals of Virginia (PMPV), and supported by various businesses from around Virginia. The main organizer and sponsor was Jim Steinle, President of Atomic (Plumbing & Drain Cleaning) from Virginia Beach. Also in attendance was Ron Bladen, President of the ICC Chapter Virginia Plumbing & Mechanical Inspectors Association (VPMIA).

HACBO Holds 43rd Annual Conference
The Hawaii Association of County Building Officials (HACBO) held its 43rd Annual Conference April 4-5 in Honolulu, Hawaii. Code Council Board President William Dupler and Chief Executive Officer Rick Weiland addressed the group, updating them on ICC re-engineering the Codes & Standards Council, Membership Councils, Code Action Committees, and other recent changes to the ICC Chapter Education Benefit, the implementation of the ICC Call Center, and the importance of promoting Building Safety Month and applying for ICC Foundation Code of Honor Scholarships.

ICC Government Relations Senior Regional Manager Kraig Stevenson presented the group with an overview of ICC Certification Exam Development and Certification Maintenance.

Renee Snodgrass Named First Female President of OBOA
Renee Snodgrass, a building inspector for the city of West Carrollton, Ohio, was recently elected to serve as President of the Ohio Building Officials Association (OBOA).

Snodgrass, a member of the organization since 1996, will serve as the association's first female President since its formation in 1961. She has served on the board of directors since 2007. Snodgrass also served her local chapter, the Miami Valley Building Officials Council as President for two terms, 2006-07.

The Ohio Building Officials Association's mission is to ensure building safety through the uniform development and application of building codes. The group, which has about 1,200 members, also coordinates the education and training of code officials and construction industry professionals.

Snodgrass said the group works closely with the Ohio Board of Building Standards, which writes the building codes for Ohio. The council is also involved with the code development at the national level with the International Code Council.

"It's really quite an honor to have been elected to the position," she said. She was sworn in as President on March 19.

ESBOF Holds 63rd Annual Educational Conference

Oklahoma Building Inspectors Association Installs New Officers
Code Council Board Member Alex "Cash" Olszowy installed new officers for the Oklahoma Building Inspectors Association (OBIA) on March 16 in Hulbert, Oklahoma. The New York State Building Officials Conference (NYSBOC) held its delegate's meeting April 2 in conjunction with the Eastern States Building Officials Federation (ESBOF) 63rd Annual Educational Conference that was held April 1-4 in Melville, New York.
