Members of the Michigan Association of Housing Officials (MAHO), a statewide ICC chapter, are advocating for inspectors statewide and nationally by putting together a case to present to the Michigan state legislature to make penalties for attacks on code officials as stringent as it is for other local officials like firefighters and police officers. To do this, Chapter members are seeking accounts of the real experiences of code officials who have been attacked while doing their jobs. To go a step further, they also are interested in receiving accounts on a national level. Chapter members need to persuade Michigan state lawmakers that the problem of attacks on code officials is widespread and serious.
