New eBook Reviews Tough Issues Shared by Many Code Enforcers

Common issues are faced by officials responsible for enforcing codes that improve and preserve the built environment. These include developing efficient complaint response policies, securing adequate resources, training staff to communicate more effectively and considering how to best deploy resources. The Art of Code Enforcement, a new electronic publication from the American Association of Code Enforcement (AACE), reviews these issues and more.

The intent of the book is to offer new ideas on how readers can improve operations by reviewing the concepts used by other code officials with similar responsibilities. The topics covered include rental and vacant property registration, setting the appropriate level of enforcement for a community, obtaining voluntary compliance, working with volunteers and alternative sanctions for non-compliance.

In the book, author Martin Collins shares his practical experience in managing a building inspection and a code enforcement office, prosecuting code violation cases, and teaching thousands of fellow code officials at University of Wisconsin-Madison and at state and local code conferences.

The Code Council and AACE are partners in providing information and tools to help support code officials in protecting public safety. The Art of Code Enforcement is a publication that will benefit the ICC and AACE membership in their daily activities. The download is available for $9.99. Informative and helpful customer reviews are also available. All income from the sale of the book will be donated by the author to AACE for use in educating those in this field. Learn more.
