ICC Training and Education Department Unveils Two New To The Point Webinars

The ICC Training and Education Department is pleased to announce two new additions to our archived To The Point Webinars: The Basics of a Plan Review Submittal and California Code Adoption for Local Jurisdictions.

The Basics of a Plan Review Submittal, presented by Chris Reeves, PE, and ICC Manager of Plan Review Services, originally aired July 24. This To The Point Webinar was our most popular webinar to date. Almost 200 industry professionals joined us for this synopsis of ICC's Plan Review process. This webinar provided an overview of the plan review submittal process and highlighted the purpose and benefit of the basic plan review. The webinar also discussed the necessary documentation required in order to conduct a thorough review.

California Code Adoption for Local Jurisdictions, presented by Stuart Tom, PE, and Chief Building Official for the city of Glendale, Calif., originally aired July 17. This webinar was a cumulative effort sponsored by the California Building Officials, California Building Standards Commission, the City of Glendale, California and ICC. With an introduction by Jim McGowan, Executive Director for the California Building Standards Commission, this webinar addressed the local adoption process in California. With the new codes being adopted and published for California, jurisdictions have until January 2014 to complete local amendment ordinances and file them with California Building Standards Commission. This presentation provided important information that will help code officials navigate the laws and regulations pertaining to this process. It included sample documents for a staff report, justification, and adoption ordinance.

Both Webinars are available for on-demand viewing on the ICC Campus. Visit www.icccampus.org to view these complimentary webinars and choose from a myriad of other webinars and courses based on various codes and topics.

The To the Point Webinars are complimentary webinars that are recorded live every third Wednesday of the month. They have been prerecorded and are available for on-demand viewing. They address various topics of interest to the code enforcement, design, and construction-related industries. Each is approximately 30 minutes in length and presented by industry experts.

New Safe Drinking Water Act Requirements for Lead in Plumbing Products — What Code Officials Need to Know
Presented by: Shawn Martin, ICC Director of PMG Activities and Lee Clifton, ICC Director of PMG Resources

This webinar will provide an overview of the critical concepts of the "Reduction of Lead in Drinking Water Act". This webinar will highlight the new requirements for lead content in potable plumbing pipes, fittings and fixture fittings that the act makes to the Safe Drinking Water Act that go into effect January 2014. The new law reduces the permissible lead content in plumbing products used on the potable water system from a maximum of 8.0 percent to 0.25 percent on the wetted waterway using a new calculation and assessment method. This new law impacts both the installation and sale of product. Enforcement has been delegated to the states, which makes it important for code officials to understand their role and responsibilities. Participants will be able to fully understand the new requirements in Safe Drinking Water Act for lead in plumbing products, its applicability and enforcement.
