ICC Issues Calls for Codes and Standards Council,
Code Technology and Code Action Committees

The Code Council is currently accepting applications for its Codes and Standards Council (CSC), Code Technology Committee (CTC) and three Code Action Committees (CACs):

Codes and Standards Council
In 2011, ICC re-engineered its Councils to better align with the Code Council's mission and the code development process. The CSC was established as a single multi-discipline council to advise the ICC Board regarding applications for codes and standards related committees and to review and provide oversight of codes and standards related procedures.

ICC is currently receiving applications to fill six CSC term vacancies that expire Dec. 31, 2013. Current CSC members whose terms expire in December must reapply to be considered for re-appointment by the ICC Board. The term lengths are three years (Jan. 1, 2014–Dec. 31, 2016). Click here for an application. The deadline is Oct. 21, 2103.

Code Technology Committee
The objective of the CTC is to provide a single forum where pressing issues of new technology as well as other contemporary issues and concepts surrounding the current code provisions can be thoroughly and comprehensively discussed. This forum leads to the CTC's submitting proposed code changes, modifications and public comments as well as participating in the Committee Action and Public Comment Hearings. The ICC Board determines the issues to be considered by the CTC. To date, the ICC Board has approved 13 areas of study/investigation. Click here for more information.

ICC is currently receiving applications to fill six CTC term vacancies that expire Dec. 31, 2013. Current CTC members whose terms expire in December must reapply to be considered for re-appointment. Applications will be reviewed by the CSC which will then make recommendations to the ICC Board for final appointments. The term lengths are three years (Jan. 1, 2014–Dec. 31, 2016). Click here for an application. The deadline is Oct. 21, 2103.

Code Action Committees
CACs are code discipline specific committees whose purpose is to identify opportunities to improve and enhance a particular International Code or portion thereof. This is accomplished by the CACs submitting proposed code changes, modifications and public comments as well as participating in the Committee Action and Public Comment Hearings.

ICC is currently receiving applications for members of the Building, Fire and Plumbing, Mechanical and Fuel Gas CACs whose terms expire Dec. 31, 2013. Current CAC members whose terms expire in December must reapply to be considered for re-appointment. Applications will be reviewed by the CSC which will then make recommendations to the ICC Board for final appointments. The term lengths are three years (Jan. 1, 2014–Dec. 31, 2016). Click here for an application. The deadline is Oct. 21, 2103.

Terms for the Sustainable Energy & High Performance Code Action Committee (SEHPCAC) expire Dec. 31, 2014, as CAC members are engaged in the 2014 Group C Code Development Cycle.

ICC Supports EPA's First-Ever SepticSmart Week

As part of SepticSmart Week, the International Code Council (ICC) reminds everyone that proper septic system care and maintenance is vital to protecting public health and preserving valuable water resources. September 23–27 is the first-ever SepticSmart Week.

The ICC's International Private Sewage Disposal Code (IPSDC) is a model code that provides minimum requirements for the installation of new or the alteration of existing private sewage disposal systems. The IPSDC addresses site evaluations, materials, various soil absorption systems, holding tanks, cesspools and onsite, waste water treatment systems.

ICC and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) encourage homeowners to take action to ensure their septic systems are functioning properly. Nearly one quarter of all American households and more than 26 million homes, depend on septic systems to treat wastewater. Contact your local building department for more details or go to www.iccsafe.org/pmg.
