Join ICC's New Professional Development Council; Have a Voice in National Certification Exams or Education Program

To further align the goals of the Education and Certification programs, ICC introduces the Professional Development Council. The newly formed Council will be comprised of two committees, the Certification Committee and the Education Committee, which will each be made up of six members. Members are appointed by the ICC Board of Directors for three-year terms, however the inaugural terms will be one-, two- or three-year terms to achieve staggered term requirements.

Members of both committees will be required to meet via web/telephone conference and/or in person up to several times a year, as needed. In-person meetings are generally held at least once a year for a two-day period, with travel expenses reimbursed by ICC.

Applications will be accepted for the Certification Committee and the Education Committee until July 1, 2014.

For more information, visit the Professional Development Council Applicant Snapshot. To apply, download and complete the application. Applications for consideration are due by July 1, 2014.

In addition to the Council's activities, the future of ICC's Education program continues to focus on a preferred provider program, premium core training, enhanced online training, and a commitment to staffing the team for the future. For more information on ICC's training options, including the on-site Hire ICC to Teach program, the in-person options offered through ICC institutes and seminars, and online training available through the ICC Campus Online, visit www.iccsafe.org/education.

Testimony Supports Safe Building Code Incentive Act and Role of Statewide Codes in Mitigation

The Senate Subcommittee on Emergency Management, Intergovernmental Relations, and the District of Columbia met May 14 to discuss the role of mitigation in reducing federal expenditures for disaster response. Attendees agreed that hazard mitigation is not just a federal responsibility. States must also do their share. However, there are certain things the federal government can do to incentivize states to make the right decision. Under the proposed S. 924, the Safe Building Code Incentive Act, states that adopt and enforce nationally recognized model building codes for residential and commercial structures would qualify for an additional four percent of funding available for post-disaster grants, which will be administered by the Federal Emergency Management Agency through the Stafford Act. The legislation is a forward-thinking investment from the federal government to incentivize states to not only to build stronger, safer homes and businesses, but to save lives and prevent losses. Read the BuildStrong Coalition Hearing Summary of the Senate Subcommittee meet.
