BOAT and SEAoT Join Forces on State Emergency Coordination Outreach Efforts

Last year, Building Officials Association of Texas (BOAT) representatives responded to the West, Texas, fertilizer plant blast that killed 15 people by performing post-disaster damage assessment inspections and aiding first responders and citizens in the field. Moving those efforts forward, discussions between Structural Engineers Association of Texas and BOAT started this summer between the respective leadership on the possibility of joining forces during state emergency times to make each organizations' efforts more meaningful and "of worth" to the state.

The Texas Public Works Response Team was excited after hearing of these joint efforts, in hopes of having a single source they can solicit for assistance in emergency times. The partnership is a "work in progress" and will be continuously monitored. To set the initiative, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was developed and signed by the leadership of both organizations. Pictured are Structural Engineers Association of Texas President Lewis Shrier and Building Officials Association of Texas President Kurt Kasson signing the MOU.
