Online Voting Closes Friday; ICC Addresses Issues with Voting Devices

Live testing of cdpACCESS during the 2014 International Green Construction Code Public Comment Hearings in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., performed as planned but an unexpected problem occurred with the new voting devices. The audience response system (clickers), which is similar to the technology type ICC has used for seven years, experienced signal interference problems attributal to issues such as high levels of Internet traffic in the hearing room that share the same frequency as the voting devices. The new vendor for the service identified the problem and corrected it for day two of the hearings.

The Online Governmental Consensus Vote is now open and will close at Midnight Pacific time on Oct. 31. Continue reading story

ICC and SRCC Unite to Assure Safety, Effectiveness and Fast Access to Markets for Solar Industry

The International Code Council and the Solar Rating & Certification Corporation (SRCC) have agreed in principle to join forces and combine resources to support the solar industry and communities, and meet growing market demands. The agreement was announced during ICC's 2014 Annual Conference, Group C Public Comment Hearings and Expo in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

Pending a brief period of due diligence, the SRCC will become a part of the Code Council Group. ICC will continue to maintain the strong brand SRCC has built over the past 30 years. SRCC programs will operate with the highly skilled staff the industry has known for years and receive a surge of support from the ICC organizational structure.

"This merger is beneficial to both the ICC and SRCC in that it strengthens the programs and services of both organizations," said ICC Board of Directors Immediate Past President Stephen D. Jones, CBO. "The work of the SRCC complements the work of ICC in its standards, research, publications and product certification. We now combine our resources to ensure the solar industry and regulatory communities are able to respond to the high demand for alternative energy systems."

"As a non-profit with limited resources, the SRCC is constantly finding ways of working harder and working smarter to keep costs low and quality of service high," said SRCC Board Chair Ole Pilgaard. "Coming together with the International Code Council assures our stakeholders of the continued success of the SRCC programs the solar heating and cooling industry has relied on for decades. I am very proud of the contributions from my fellow Board Directors, Eileen Prado's leadership, Jim Huggins' technical expertise, and the commitment of our entire staff. I look forward to the future of the SRCC as it joins the ICC family."

PPFA, Other Organizations Urge Congress to Support ICC 700 NGBS

The Plastic Pipe and Fittings Association (PPFA)—along with other companies and individuals involved in the design, construction and development of residential buildings, including manufacturers of building materials—urged Congress to include the ICC 700 National Green Building Standard (NGBS) in the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2015 (NDAA). Currently, the Department of Defense (DOD) recognizes more than one green building rating system for commercial buildings. However, in the residential sector the DOD only recognizes LEED. This creates a monopoly when other affordable, efficient, and certified rating systems like the NGBS are available.
