Metropolitan Kansas City Chapter of ICC Mourns Loss of Past President Gregory Ford
Former Metropolitan Kansas City Chapter of ICC (MKCC) President Gregory S. Ford of Raytown, Mo., passed away March 9. He was 54. Over the course of his 20-year career in code enforcement, Ford served as a local building official in Missouri and as a project manager with the Institute for Building Technology and Safety, where he supervised code enforcement activities at military bases throughout the Midwest and Southeast. The U.S. Army veteran was an Infantry Team Leader from 1978-1985.
"Greg was all about public safety and all about the little guy, the Members," explained MKCC Secretary Melissa Brill, who is an administrative officer with the KCMO Neighborhoods & Housing Services Department. "He spoke up any time he felt our Chapter or ICC itself was compromising its mission or in any way trampling on the rights of the Members."
Following his service in the Army, Ford was an animal investigator for the city of Indianapolis and later was the general health officer for the city of Raytown. In 1994, he joined Raytown's Code Enforcement Division as a senior code enforcement officer where he helped enforce codes and provided training assistance. In 1998, Ford was named code official for Raytown and from 2000-06 he served as the city's director of community development.
Ford held several professional certifications, including ICC Certified Building Official, ICC Residential Combination Inspector, ICC Building Plans Examiner and ICC Permit Technician. He was a member of the ICC Residential and Property Maintenance Code Interpretation Committees, the ICC International Residential Code Plumbing/Mechanical Code Change Committee, and the ICC Legacy Certifications Committee. In addition to serving as MKCC President in 2005, he also was Chapter Vice President (2004) and Secretary (2003). |
