NCHH Shows How Green Housing = Improved Health
Green building programs traditionally have focused on improving building performance while mitigating the negative environmental impacts of the built environment. They include measures to lower energy and water consumption, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and minimize the amount of solid waste and construction debris that ends up in landfills. Green building programs typically specify environmentally friendly materials, and address the design and development of a project, as well as its subsequent operations and on-going maintenance. An informative report from the National Center for Healthy Housing (NCHH) illustrates how building affordable green housing provides health benefits to its low-income residents.
Standby Generator Checklist from PERC
With the threat of more hurricanes looming once again, homeowners in storm-prone areas are reminded of the importance of a reliably fueled, standby generator. Building professionals who train now to become familiar with this application may find new opportunities in a few months.
There are many benefits to a generator that's powered by an uninterruptable, on-site fuel source such as propane—especially when compared to gasoline and diesel. Propane emits fewer greenhouse gas emissions than either fuel and is highly economical to store and transport. If released it does not pool, leave a residue or contaminate soil or ground water. Lastly, propane does not experience the same rate of deterioration as the gasoline or diesel. Here are 10 considerations for choosing a standby generator, courtesy of Generac Power Systems and the Propane Education & Research Council (PERC).
