Kindergarteners, First Graders Learn
the Importance of Building Safety

In observance of this year's Building Safety Month celebration, staff at the Rancho Palos Verdes, California, Community Development Department visited kindergarten and first grade students at Cornerstone Elementary School to talk about the importance of building safety.

During the visit, staff presented a brief educational program to explain the role of code officials and things the students and their families can do to enhance safety within their homes. Coloring books, activity books, technical information and handouts were distributed to the children, parents and teachers.

The department utilized the "Build it Right" wall as a display and prop for the event that was loaned by the city of Corona. Staff members who participated were Building Inspectors Mike Del Rio and Mike Wiener, Permit Technicians Sandra Ishman and Tom DeFazio, Planners So Kim and Abigail Harwell, and Building Official Paul Christman.
