Mike Holmes, Building Safety Month
Honorary Ambassador

 
Mike Holmes, HGTV celebrity and trusted contractor, is lending his support to the campaign as 2012 Building Safety Month Honorary Ambassador. Holmes will kick off the campaign on April 27 with a media tour for television and radio morning shows passing along safety tips and advocating for strong, enforceable codes and a well-trained workforce.
Holmes will host a Building Safety Month chat session on www.makeitright.ca on Thursday, May 10, reinforcing the strong codes save lives message and answering consumer questions via social media. Holmes will also be featured in a PSA that will be available for download the first week of May.




Building Safety Month Sponsor Line-Up
This year, we have unprecedented support for Building Safety Month. The sponsor array includes Presenting Sponsor—Air Movement and Control Association (AMCA) and Platinum Sponsors—BASF–The Chemical Company, Platinum Supporters—the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Federal Alliance for Safe Homes (FLASH). AMCA will be featured throughout the campaign and will provide content and information during the Launch Week. BASF will be featured during Green & Energy Week, and FEMA and FLASH during Disaster Safety & Mitigation Week.

Building Safety Month Schedule | Website Resources
In May, the International Code Council and ICC Foundation will celebrate the 32nd Annual Building Safety Month, an International Celebration of Safe and Sustainable Structures. Throughout the month, Code Council Members will be educating individuals and families about building safety and sustainability issues in the places where they live, work and play.
The schedule this year is:

Building Safety Month Launch Week | May 1-6
Week One | Energy & Green Building Week | May 7-13
Week Two | Disaster Safety & Mitigation Week | May 14-20
Week Three | Fire Safety & Awareness Week | May 21-27
Week Four | Backyard Safety Week | May 28-31

 
BuildingSafetyMonth.org is completely redesigned this year to provide easier access to the resources and tools for activating Building Safety Month in your community. Take a tour of the site and let us know what you think.
Some features of the site include:

"Host Community Events" where you will find ideas for hosting local events by downloading the Steps to Success, the Campaign Toolkit and review the "How To" videos.
"Join the I-Support Campaign" that allows individuals to join the movement by entering their name, organization, city and state on the supporter list.
"Sponsor and Secure Proclamations" that provides step-by-step instructions for securing proclamations from local officials.
"Promote Building Safety Month" that includes resources for getting your message out to local media with Letter to the Editor and News Release templates.
"For the Kids" area with CODiE & CODEtte resources for school visits.
