President Obama Declares May as
National Building Safety Month

For the second consecutive year, President Obama signed a Presidential Proclamation declaring May as National Building Safety Month. "We thank President Obama for recognizing the importance of building safety and join him in saluting code enforcement officials for their contributions to building safe and sustainable communities across the nation and around the globe," said Code Council CEO Richard P. Weiland.
The Presidential Proclamation reads, in part: "Whether protecting our communities from fires, floods, earthquakes, severe storms, or other disasters, building safety professionals play a critical role in making America safe, strong, and sustainable. This month, we celebrate their work, and we rededicate ourselves to ensuring our Nation remains ready and resilient."   5-4-3-2-1… Building Safety Month 2012 Is Launched!
May 1-6 was Launch Week for the 32nd Annual Building Safety Month celebration and this year promises to be the largest observance yet. Mike Holmes, HGTV celebrity and trusted contractor, kicked off the 2012 campaign on April 27 with a sequence of one-on-one satellite interviews with media and video news releases with pre-booked television reporters across the country. Holmes reinforced the "strong codes save lives" message for the tour held on the first anniversary of the 2011 tornado outbreak in the southeast region of the United States.
Holmes also recorded a public service announcement for use by code officials on local television stations, ICC Chapter websites and social media platforms, and for use in safety demonstrations and presentations. The PSA is available for preview here. Visit www.buildingsafetymonth.org to download the PSA, and for other resources to promote your local Building Safety Month events. Holmes is hosting a Building Safety Month Live Chat Session at www.makeitright.ca from 9 a.m.-11 a.m. Eastern on May 9. Submit your questions in advance to info@icc-foundation.org.
