Support the Building Code Grant

In February, the Code Council sent information to chapters announcing its new Chapter Advocacy Program including details of the 2008 initiative to support the Community Building Code Administrative Grant Act (CBCAG). To follow-up, chapter presidents were sent an e-mail last month asking them to let staff know if they would be adopting the resolution to help promote these bills. Some chapters
have scheduled reviews of the resolution at their chapter meetings while others have already adopted the resolution and sent it to the Council’s Congressional Relations staff.

If your chapter has not already done so, please consider adopting this important resolution. Adopted Chapter resolutions are a powerful means of communication to Congress and the public-at-large. During Building Safety Week (May 5-11), the Code Council will host a Capitol Hill delegation of 50 building and fire safety professionals, including one Chapter leader from each of the four 2007 Chapter award winners. The delegation will meet with more than 100 Congressional offices on Capitol Hill Day, May 7. Chapter Resolutions received by the end of April will be hand-delivered to Congress during the Building Safety Week Capitol Hill visits. Please send us an email indicating when your chapter will be considering this resolution.

The International Code Council Government Relations Department acts as a nonpartisan body working with Federal, state and local governments to educate and inform decision makers on relevant public safety matters. Code Council members should be sure to comply with all applicable Federal, state and local laws, rules and agency regulations when participating in the activities of the Code
Council's Government Relations Department.
