ICC-ES Visits Northern Nevada Chapter

ICC-ES President John Nosse gave a presentation to the Northern Nevada Chapter in Reno. Nosse provided information to assist code officials in using ICC-ES Evaluation Reports to approve innovative building products. Also in attendance at the meeting was Code Council Board Secretary/Treasurer Ron Lynn‚ who provided chapter members with an update on organizational activities.

HACBO Holds Annual Business Meeting, Educational Conference

The Hawaii Association of County Building Officials (HACBO) held its Annual Business Meeting and Educational Conference on May 12-16 at the Hawaii Prince Hotel Waikiki in Honolulu. This was the 39th annual statewide code official meeting for HACBO but was the organization’s first meeting as a Code Council chapter. In attendance was Code Council Board member John Darnall, Board member John LaTorra, Government Relations Senior Regional Manager Kraig Stevenson and Fire Service Activities Senior Regional Manager Kevin Scott. Tracy Schmidt, Travel Coordinator from the Code Council’s Meeting and Travel Services Department, was on-hand during the meeting to assist with registration and other meeting coordination duties. Six educational seminars were held on the 2006 International Building Code and International Residential Code as well as special break-out technical session discussions for all inspection disciplines.

Herb Muraoka (center) is honored by City and County of Honolulu Mayor Mufi Hannemann (right) for his 34 years of service to the City and County of Honolulu as Director and Building Superintendent. Mayor Hannemann read a proclamation that recognized Muraoka’s lifetime efforts and dedication to enhancing public safety through the promotion of effective administration and enforcement of building codes. Muraoka was also a founding member of HACBO and served as HACBO’s first President in 1970. To the left is Henry Eng, current Department of Planning and Permitting Director for the City and County of Honolulu.
